About #1...I've heard that smoking among men is something of a problem in China.

I forget where, but I read something once that was like "There are 2 kinds of Asians, the nerdy ones who study all day, and the super-trendy ones who listen to loud rap, smoke, and wear huge platform shoes." It seems to be mostly true around here. :P

Well, Chinese and Japanese people smoke like crazy in China and Japan. It's not considered "bad" or anything.

And for the teenagers over here. I think it's because they're so sheltered and isolated from the real world throughout their lives (only knowing to study and do well in school) that when they go off to college, they go crazy. That's also why there are so many who get seriously injured or die from OD-ing or alcohol poisoning. It's because.....they just freak out when they're suddenly put into the crazy American world.
