Thursday December 04, 2003 Job-Day 2
Wow. Today was a long day. After school, I had tutoring, Then, I went to work. It was like the busiest day ever. Once people started coming in at 5:00, they didn't stop. As soon as one person was seated, there was another in the door waiting, or there were dishes to clean or bring out, or there was a bill to ring up, or there was a take out order to take. I seriously didn't have a moment to catch my breath. See, it's a small restaurant, so I'm the only one out in front. Here's all the things I'm responsible for: seating customers, taking drink orders, bringing them drinks, taking their food orders, bringing them their food, asking them how it is, refilling drinks periodically, ringing up the bill, bringing them the bill, cleaning the table, taking carryout orders, and bringing out carryout orders. It's a TON of work. Imagine doing that when there are three groups of people in the restaurant, three waiting for their carryout orders, and a one waiting to be seated. Yeah, that's what I had to do, pretty much. In the end, it was all worth it. In addition to my regular $2.50/hour, I made $52 in tips today. The owner was really really surprized and said that I had done an amazing job. It made me feel so good. She said that smart kids usually aren't very good workers, and smart kids that are only children also aren't usually very good workers, but that I am smart AND an amazing worker. Wow, so rewarding. But I don't have to work tomorrow because she's already got someone coming in, so I can finish all my essays and stuff for college. YAY!
