Monday October 06, 2003 PPA Rant
Okay, today's entry will be a little weird, but stick with me here. This morning driving to school was like a dream. No one was speeding, no one cut me off, no one tailgated me. I caught all green lights, even going just the speed limit. I got to school easily in 10 minutes. Wow.

At school itself, I caught half my hand between a huge heavy cart and the wall, but the skin didn't break, so now I have a spot of blood and a huge scab under the skin, and it really really hurts. Meh. Then, of course, they locked all the units for lunch again, which brings me to my huge rant thing. Seriously, this is something I feel very strongly about, so stick with me here, even if I use words I shouldn't.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Payne Academy was supposed to be a seperate school. We were a seperate school for gifted students, some of whom decided to take McClintock classes not offered by the Academy. When the hell did we become McClintock students? Our first year, we were pretty much seperate. Some students felt good as a part of both, but we were seperate schools, as it should be. We were going to graduate as Payne Academy students, not as McClintock students. We were going to have our own lounge/lunchroom thing. We were going to grow and expand. So what the hell happened to all of that? This year, if anything, we've grown smaller. "Our" unit has been taken over by McClintock classes. We are subject to all McClintock rules and regulations, yet we are still discriminated against as "elite." Hell, even our ****ing National Merit Semifinalist status counts as McClintock, not PPA. What the hell? I don't consider myself a McClintock student! I hate McClintock! I don't want my name appearing in the list for McClintock National Merit Semifinalist students! What has McClintock done for me? Nothing, besides ridicule me and make me feel like I didn't belong. What has McClintock done for the Academy? Nothing, besides excluding us from clubs like NHS. What have we done for McClintock? Oh, only given them some of the best test scores in the district. We, as students, at least deserve the same rights as every other student, if not more for leaving behind our friends and coming to a school like the Academy! Since when do they have the ****ing right to take only what they want of us and throw the rest out like trash? Since when did McClintock have absolute and complete dominance and control over us? What worries me now is that Mrs. Boles is going to be talking about changing the Academy, presumable to be more integrated with McClintock. What the hell? I don't want to integrate, the point was that we'd slowly pull away and become our own seperate entity. Now, instead of becoming our own school, we're turning into a McClintock program, no different from Mountain Pointe's gifted programs. Why would I drive 40 minutes a day for something like this?!? I'd just stay with my friends and go somewhere 5 minutes away from my house!

Then too comes the stupid superintendent without the balls to stand up for what is right and support us. He and the school board chose to start the Academy about three years ago. Schools cost money to start. You'd think they'd at least see it through. But no, they give in to pressure and try and shut us down like we're a program. We're not just another ****ing program like special ed! We're a school! We deserve the dignity of one! If you never planned to keep us around, why start us in the first place? Why make students like me leave their comfort zones and risk everything for a school that you promised would be different? Hell, why even promise us a "school?" This isn't a school. It sickens me how the superintendent is acting, and it sickens me how McClintock is treating us.

Which comes back to the issue of locking the units at lunch. Apparently, they're locking the units because "the awnings are up." What the hell? I didn't ask for awnings! I hate the awnings! Obviously, this rule was intended to target only us since the only people in units during lunch are Academy kids. McClintock students have their lunchroom. They have their meeting places. We can't sit in the lunchroom for fear of ridicule and discrimination, as well as the tiny fact that there's NO DAMN SPACE! We had our own meeting places, but all were shut down by McClintock security. Even the unit ban was intended to apply to McClintock students, then why was it applied to unit 5? For the sake of equality? Please, don't make me laugh. We've never been equal, nor will we ever be. The Academy was intended to be different. That's the draw that many of the students, including me, saw. We saw a way to different from the crowd, to stand out. So now you're taking all that away, fine. So why then are you locking the area behind the unit? For equality? Well then, why aren't any of the other areas behind any of the other units locked? Oh, hard question? Let me answer it for you. You lock this particular area because it's where all the Academy kids stay during lunch, AFTER the idea of a lounge for us fell through, and AFTER you banned food in all the units last year. It's disgusting how you treat us. Equality? Please... if you wanted equality, you'd treat us such.

Wow, that was a long rant. Okay, I know that a lot of it was passion over reason, but I'm sick of being discriminated against. They can't treat us like we're below them, and still expect us to follow their rules and accept them. Agree with me? Comment below!
